FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
HOLLYWOOD, CA - June 1, 2002 - If "the proper response to love is to destroy it," then the proper response to a successful run is to extend. In response to the overwhelming interest from the initial six week run at Hollywood's Theatre/Theater, TORN will have an extended run at the Ruby Theatre at The Complex. Rob Kendt called TORN, "fascinatingly risky." Paul Birchall, in his review in Back Stage West said, "David Lee's production is essentially an ingenious and imaginative new form of theatre." "There were many aspects of the play that we didn't have enough time to explore in our initial run," said Darren Chan, one of the show's producers. "Since this show is an organic, ever-changing piece of theatre, the additional four weeks gives us more time to test the limits of the show." "For actors and audiences, the experience becomes richer the longer the run is," said David Lee, the show's director, "you're able to get completely different takes on the same story. Like life, at any given moment, things can go any which way and our choices, which often seem very individualistic are so tightly interwoven and often constrained by those around us. It's the unplanned for that makes life and this play so interesting." One change in the upcoming extension is that D.W. Sweet will be taking on the role of Scott Blume, the prodigy chef/restaurateur. It's the role he originated in the first production of the show. After playing Scott Blume, D.W. actually left acting and became one of top young chefs in Boston for a year. Christopher Heltai, who played Scott in the original run, is now the male production understudy. The cast consists of Andrew Ableson, Emily Cline, Shellee Rae Crane, Justin Ipock, Tracy Keim, Leora Klein, Mark Lewis, Davis Rushing, Elyse Seiden, Damon Shalit, and D.W. Sweet. Christopher Heltai serves as production understudy. TORN, powered by JHKstage, is presented by Ducky Bamboo Productions in partnership with Darren Chan and Thomas Yang producing. Bruce Cheng serves as Stage Manager. TORN re-opens at The
Ruby Theatre at "The Complex," 6476 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood,
CA 90038 (Between Wilcox & Caheunga). Performances are Thurs. through
Sat. at 8:00 PM, closing June 29. For tickets and reservations call 310
